The work of award-winning theatre company Les Enfants Terribles includes international stage shows, ground-breaking immersive theatre, outdoor family-orientated touring productions, and large-scale public and corporate events.

For their most recent project for a corporate client, Head of Production Anthony Hollis and Lighting Designer Jack Weir specified the brand new Martin MAC Allure Profile for its unique 7 segment LED engine.

Jack Weir explained, “There was a sequence at the end of the immersive experience whereby the audience passed through a dark corridor which was designed to look like the synapses of the human brain. This featured a large wall with small holes in which light beams could pass through. I wanted the MAC Allure fixture as it’s segmenting function allows each unit to provide 7 separate colour sources in one throw.”

The light & colour engine of the MAC Allure is divided into seven full-colour pixels. Pixels can be focused on projection or in the beam for aerial effect. Full colour & intensity control over each pixel is available via DMX, or effects created via the fixture’s own effects engine. The RGBW LED engine delivers vibrant colours with a brightness only expected from much larger fixtures.

"There’s a huge variety of effects not seen before which are now possible thanks to the unique ability to have 7 different isolated sources inside one unit.”

Jack Weir continues, “The ability to segment the beam into 7 separate sources is obviously what sets this fixture aside from the others, but it’s actually when it’s combined with the brilliant optics inside Martin products that you get the most impressive results. For instance; you are able to switch the segmenting feature on or off based purely on the edge and zoom parameters. This means that you still get the benefits of a high powered LED profile luminaire but with an ace card up its sleeve.“

Jack envisages specifying the MAC Allure on a variety of future projects. “I’d say it will particularly be useful for musicals where the display of the beam in the air is vital to the atmosphere of the show. There’s a huge variety of effects not seen before which are now possible thanks to the unique ability to have 7 different isolated sources inside one unit.”
